Report

A group of 5 anons searched Waverly Shopping centre and St James' - no exhibition was found. The Org informs us that it is probably not coming to Edinburgh. We will keep you posted on the forums (mini-raids).

Psychiatry - Industry of death exhibition by the Citizens Commission for Human Rights

The 'Psychiatry - an Industry of Death' Exhibition will be in Edinburgh from 18-25th May 2008 - however, the venue is unconfirmed and as such the date may be altered, though this is thought to be unlikely. The Citizens' Commission on Human Rights (CCHR), a known Scientology front group, is bringing the exhibition to the area as part of an ongoing tour aimed at spreading propaganda about the alleged wrongdoings of the psychiatric industry. The exhibition will also be held in Glasgow on 1-8 June, again at an unconfirmed venue. Anonymous will picket and flier outside the venue to inform the public of the connection between CCHR and Scientology, and to give an antidote (100% truth) against the Scientology poison (90% lies).

Essential Reading

It is important to understand that the CCHR was founded both by a man called Thomas Szasz and the Church of Scientology in 1969. Although the exhibition may try to underplay the connection to Scientology, it is run almost exclusively by Scientologists. There is a real challenge here, as the CCHR mixes genuine concerns about psychiatry with absolute lies. This is NOT a black and white issue, so should be dealt with intelligently. Do not infringe on their right to free speech, simply exercise your own. Consult the forums.

Action

Inform police of our intentions

As always, we protest PEACEFULLY. They need to know this intention of ours. Also for procedural reasons - if the public complains about us, then the police will let that be known to us.

Fliering

Fliers must be produced for the event. Ask Brumanonymous for any material that they have used.

Picketing

Signs may be produced in keeping with the issue at hand. Be prepared to talk to the public to give the other side of the story.

May 18th - 25th May: Edinburgh

During the week those anonymous who have time, are urged to be present around the exhibition. Create a group of about 5 people if you can. There may be a risk of bull baiting etc so never be alone.

Please look at the anonymous rules. They will be even more useful as there maybe fewer numbers.

During the weekends, if anonymous is able, a group of around 5-20 anonymous should be present. More is a possibility but we will have to examine what we have to work with when we find out location. Not everyone is expected to make every weekend so this a guesstimate. Volunteer lists should be updated below.

1st of June - 8th of June: Glasgow

Same again doing thing in week and weekends, i'm sure after Glasgow Anons make effort to come to The Burgh every month that we can journey there at those weekends, again maybe not to many as it will be likely to be just before the June protest so we will need to also prepare for that.

Venue

This is unconfirmed. It is worth noting that at Birmingham, anons found the exhibition at their shopping centre. It is likely that the exhibition will be in a very public place. A speculative list of function venues is started here:

  • St James' Shopping Centre
  • The Princes Mall
  • Ocean Terminal
