Dress Code
Note that the theme will be PIRATE, AAAAAARGH! So we recommend you dress accordingly. But if you are lacking in imagination/money, the traditional dress is black suit and tie. But of course, as always, you alone are the best judge.
Side note: As documented in this Enturbulation thread David Misgavige has just declared that Anonymous is actually the Fourth or Fifth Invasion Fleet of the Marcab Confederacy whose uniform is a black suit and a black fedora hat. So if you are stuck for what to wear, your old Invasion Fleet uniform will do just fine.
Masks
Masks ARE recommended for good reasons:
- For your safety. You may laugh at stories of OSA harassment but this is VERY real. They WILL try to find out who you are and they WILL try to ruin your life. It's as simple as that. Whether you are an instigator or just a voice in the crowd they will want to find out who you are. They are having difficulties with Anonymous so they will try to look for a weak link. Research what Tory Christman or Paulette Cooper went through. Fair Game is not fun.
- As a publicity stunt. It's fun, it's interesting and it makes us different from other protesters, we need that.
- If you listen to old school Scientology critics they will all tell you one thing. Tory Christman, Mark Bunker, Molly Bloom have all said "Anonymity is your greatest weapon". We are like nothing they have tried to combat before. They have no clue how to fight a faceless, identity-less body of people. We have them confused and, yes, scared so let's not lose that by becoming a protest group like any other -- they know how to deal with those.
You choice of mask is optional, however keep in mind that the 'V' mask has become somewhat iconic to Anonymous and uniform 'V' masks look good for the media.
Flash Silent Protest
Hunters Square is closed, due to thetans. That's what the Scientologists want anyway. The police think that there will be a public order problem if they put Scientologists and Anonymous within 5 yards of each other. That is clearly a bullshit assumption; we have only ever been civil towards Scientologists. We will comply largely with the police - we will take our protest elsewhere for the day. However, we will flash protest Hunters Square for 20 minutes, SILENTLY. It is intended to turn Hunter's Square into a eerie place, where a hundred blank faces carry a hundred blank placards. More details are to follow.
Postcard writing - Operation Over the Wall
To lend Anonymous' support for the prisoners at Scientology's SP Hall, postcard writing will take place at Hunter's throughout the day. Our message from over the wall is intended to remind those mentally trapped at Scientology's RPF, that the outside world is aware of them, and that we care. Rehabilitation Project Force is essentially Scientology's Californian gulag for bad Scientologists, here's a link with more information on the RPF.

Use of the word 'CULT'
At our last protests, we were prevented from using the word 'Cult' by the police, because they had received numerous "BAAAAAAAAAWS!" from the Scientologists, claiming that it is offensive (note: the truth of the word has not been attacked officially). We are assuming that the situation still stands for the next protests, unless we do something about it. Various efforts are being made to rectify the situation - we are talking to the police, but it is a long, bureaucratic process. Our police liaisons will inform you of any developments.
We have not had it quite as bad as London, where the City of London Police (not the Met police), have taken action against a 15 year old, and summoned him to court, for having a sign saying "Scientology is a dangerous Cult". Scientology is clearly putting pressure on the police to intervene in this conflict. Other cities in the UK have had similar censorship problems, and it only helps to expose the insidious and litigious nature of Scientology. It is worth pointing out how the Americans seem to mock us as "Brits are rather less enthusiastic about the whole "free speech" concept than the US is" (Gawker, May 20th link to article), and the Germans laugh in hysterics at our lack of civil liberties.
Closer to home, Liberty's Shami Chakrabarti had this to say in a Guardian article on the subject
This barmy prosecution makes a mockery of Britain's free speech traditions. After criminalising the use of the word 'cult', perhaps the next step is to ban the words 'war' and 'tax' from peaceful demonstrations?
It is quite clear that Scientology is really pushing the boundaries of the law (as they have been doing for a long time), and compromising the very principles of freedom of expression. This has, and will continue to upset people outside of Anonymous.
Update: Partly due to our lobbying, and partly due to EpicNoseGuy's case in London (read the Guardian article) we will not be stopped by police from using signs with the word 'CULT' in it. Although the outcome of the English case does not automatically mean that it has authority in Scotland, it has made an impression on the powers that be. All in all, freedom of expression has won the day.
